Spring 2021 Art + Design Merit Scholarship Exhibition

Once again the NEIU Art + Design Community website was encharged of putting together a virtual show for the 2021 Art + Design Merit Scholarship awardees. Our department provides an opportunity for students to apply in the Fall & Spring semesters, and later hosts an exhibition to celebrate the accomplishments of its student awardees.

Due to the current circumstances, our Spring 2021 show had to be postponed but we believe our students deserve to be recognized for their hard work.

Congratulations to our Spring 2021 awardees!

We reached out to two of our awardees and here´s what they shared with us regarding their participation/virtual experience:

"It's always an honor to have my work displayed alongside that of my skilled peers. As for my virtual experience: it's been a challenge adjusting to online learning. Being focused on a screen so often for classes and work has negatively impacted both my attention span and eyesight and it can be a struggle to stay focused--on the bright side, I've picked up many new hobbies to expend energy and to get myself away from my phone or computer. I do worry there will be a difficult transition when it's safe to go back to classes in person."

"I am a bit dissapointed that this past year we did not get to have in person classes or see the amazing works that had been selected for the merit scholarship shows. I really miss the interaction with my classmates and instructors, but I also appreciate the opportunities that have been offered online even during these difficult times. We now have a community website and a blog which is a huge improvement to stay in touch, look at student exhibitions virtually, and see what's going on.
There's not much we can do right now, but I do want to thank our Art + Design Department faculty and student body for their hard work."

"Hello, my name is Ben Oshana. I am a K-12 Art education major with a focus in Printmaking. This is my first time receiving this award. I am delighted and honored to be awarded the fine arts scholarship. Being at Northeastern I have learned so much from the Fine Arts faculty and staff. They are extremely knowledgable and welcoming. I thank all of you and my peers for helping me grow."
